An investigation is underway after a New Bedford woman suffered a fatal gunshot wound Sunday evening, authorities said. 

New Bedford Police received several 911 calls around 10:10 PM regarding a female shooting victim, according to a release from Bristol County District Attorney spokesman Gregg Miliote.

First responders found Sabrina DaSilva, 19, laying in the parking lot area of 9 Bedford Street, where she resided, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

DaSilva was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The investigation is being coordinated by Assistant District Attorneys Carolyn Morrissette and Robert Digiantomaso with assistance by New Bedford Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned tot eh District Attorney's Office.

The State Medical Examiner's Office has taken custody of the body and will perform an initial autopsy Tuesday.
