If your child is on the Autism Spectrum but has always wanted to learn to surf, they have a chance this fall.

One of my favorite parts of my job is writing about activities like this. It seriously warms my heart when I hear of companies or businesses providing classes for kids who might otherwise not be able to participate due to some special circumstances. I also firmly believe that getting out in the ocean can provide such impactful therapy, both mentally and physically, for everyone. So I was so happy to hear that Sophie’s Promise was teaming up with Gnome Surf to provide surf lessons for kids on the Autism Spectrum.

Classes will be limited to 10 children per lesson and each family is required to provide their own life jackets. Reservations need to be made in advance and will take place on South Shore Beach in Little Compton. Lessons take place on September 16, 23, 30 and October 7. Start time is 10 a.m. on the beach. Spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis so be sure to specify which session you’d like to sign up for. You can do so by emailing Christine@sophiespromise.org.
