Assisting Elderly Women in Times of Need [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]
A local but little-known organization has been serving the needs of older women in New Bedford for more than 150 years.
The Association for the Relief of Aged Women was started by Quaker Rachel Howland in 1866 and continues today under the leadership of Executive Director Clare Foley and its Board of Directors.
The Association recently awarded $275,000 in grants to area Councils on Aging and other organizations that provide programs for elderly women and others.
Clare Foley joined Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss the work of the Association for the Relief of Aged Women and its future plans. Ms. Foley's interview can be heard here:
Townsquare Sunday is a weekly public-affairs program that airs Sunday morning at 6 on 1420 WBSM. The program highlights individuals and organizations that are working to make Greater New Bedford a better place to live.
