Acushnet Police Report Training Grenade Detonated on Perry Hill Road
Acushnet Police and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad responded to a residence this evening after a person brought home what appeared to be a grenade.
This evening at 7:21 p.m., Acushnet Police responded to a residence in the 200-block of Perry Hill Road. According to police, a landscaper had been working on Cape Cod earlier today “and found what appeared to be an old hand grenade and brought it home to Acushnet.”
The landscaper showed the device to a family member, and “out of an abundance of caution,” police said, officers were called to the residence. The State Police Bomb Squad was also notified and responded to the home.
According to police, the amount of corrosion on the device meant that x-raying it to determine if there were explosives inside would have proved inconclusive. Instead, the decision was made to perform a controlled detonation of the device on the property.
At 9:08 p.m., the device was detonated without incident, police said. It was determined to be a training device that contained no explosives.
Police said no further information is being released at this time.
