Acushnet Stabbing Suspect Arrested After Search

ACUSHNET — A man accused of stabbing an Acushnet woman in the neck on Tuesday night has been caught in the woods.

Acushnet Police Chief Christopher Richmond said in a release that the 58-year-old victim called police to report that she had been stabbed at her Carol Street home at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The male suspect — whom the victim knew — fled into the woods near the home, which is on a small road located off David Street near the Keene River in the north part of town.

Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from two stab wounds to her neck, but she was conscious and alert, Richmond stated.

She was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, where she remains in stable condition.

According to the chief, police quickly set up a perimeter to search the area, assisted by Mattapoisett and state police along with the Bristol and Plymouth County Sheriff's Offices.

The 41-year-old male suspect was caught within the hour, Richmond said.

He was arrested without further incident and is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a household or family member.

Police did not give the suspect's name for confidentiality reasons, according to the chief.

The man is due to be arraigned Wednesday in New Bedford District Court.
