Think you have what it takes to conquer a mountain of seafood?

My food challenge days may be over, but Blue Point Restaurant in Acushnet is putting appetites to the test with its first-ever Captain’s Platter Challenge, running from Tuesday, March 11 through Thursday, March 13.

This seafood challenge is simple in theory but tough to swallow (pun intended): two people, two chowders and one massive seafood platter – and all must be finished in 45 minutes.

If you and your dining partner can devour it all, the meal is on the house. Fail to finish? You’ll still walk away with a $10 gift card as a consolation prize.

How the Challenge Began

Owners Natasha and Juan Gomez never planned on hosting an eating competition, but after customers repeatedly questioned whether the Captain’s Platter could be finished in one sitting, they decided to make it official.

"A lot of people were challenging us, saying they could eat it, so we figured, hey, let's put it to the test," Juan said.

The $69 Captain’s Platter is typically meant for two people, featuring a towering portion of seafood and onion rings, plus two cups of chowder.

Strategy for Success

Participants don’t need to sign up in advance; just walk in, announce your challenge, and the feast will be served. However, Juan has some advice for those attempting to finish it all.

"Don't eat the famous cornbread," he warned. "You'll fill up on that first."

The cornbread is not included in the challenge, but offered to everyone who is seated at the restaurant as a welcoming basket.

With sign-ups already rolling in, the Blue Point team is gearing up for three days of seafood-fueled excitement. If you think you’ve got the stomach for it, head to Blue Point Restaurant in Acushnet and take your shot at the Captain’s Platter Challenge.

Win or lose, you’ll at least have one epic meal.
