Westport Police Care for Severely Neglected Dog

Earlier this week, Westport Animal Control officers responded to a call from a resident who spotted a dog in distress wandering the area of Sanford Road and Mil Avenue. Animal Control and Westport Police found the severely matted dog soaked in it's own urine and decided to take it in.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston assisted local authorities with the care and investigation of the animal. The dog had no collar, markings, or identification of any kind.

Animal Rescue League veterinary technicians determined the dog was a female Brussels Griffin and approximately 8 years old. ARL staff dubbed the dog "Jersey."

The dog is in severe condition and is undergoing enucleation surgery which will render her permanently blind. Jersey will also have bladder stones removed and undergo significant dental treatment. She is under the care of ARL Boston staff. They estimate her care and medical treatments will cost up to $4,000.
