Most Popular Dog Names in New Bedford
Dog owners across the SouthCoast know that you need to license your pet in the city where you live. Though each local city and town is different, the law is the same and applying for your license means letting the town know your pup's new name.
With the 2022 licensing window closing just last month in New Bedford, we thought it was the perfect time to find out what names were the city's most popular.
Did Moby come out on top in the Whaling City? Or were the popular names from across the Braga Bridge just as in demand down I-195?
It turns out folks across the SouthCoast have fairly similar tastes when it comes to naming their dogs.
Among the top 10 most popular dog names in New Bedford, eight of them were the same as the top 10 most popular dog names in Fall River. Most of them also happen to be among the most popular for Boston as well.
As a non-dog owner myself, I can't say what is attracting so many people to these doggie designations, but clearly the pet owners all agree on a good name when they hear one.
Not to say that there weren't some unique names in New Bedford. Among the over 6,000 registered dogs in the Whaling City there was only one Peanut Butter Fluffernutter, one Potato and one Ruben.
In non-food-related names, there was also only one Sherlock, one Wilbur and one Chewbaca.
There also happened to be one pup named Nancy in New Bedford, owned by someone who clearly has great taste in names. Though my name may not have come out on top, these names did and we ranked them from 10 to 1.
