Ramen Noodles Can Hurt Your Heart
It’s a college kid staple, but it may be doing damage to your heart. Especially if you’re a woman.
There are studies for everything it seems and a new one shows that ramen, along with any type of instant noodle, can be very bad for your heart. The study was published in The Journal of Nutrition and shows that these instant noodles that are so popular on college campuses are especially dangerous for women.
"So why are women more likely to be affected by ramen noodles?"
The study was conducted in South Korea, where people reportedly eat more ramen than anywhere in the world. Over 10,000 adults were part of a two-year diet survey that wound up showing scientists women who eat these instant noodles at least twice a week had higher risk for heart disease, type-2 diabetes, stroke, higher blood pressure, higher blood sugar and higher cholesterol.
So why are women more likely to be affected by ramen noodles?
Time magazine reports that one study author says it may be because women have different hormones and metabolisms than men. But others think it could be because these noodles are packaged in plastic that is often lined with the endocrine disruptor BPA and can mess with estrogen signaling.
Either way, instant noodles are no good for us ladies. Or anyone really. Ramen noodles cook up quick because they are prepped in palm oil and are loaded with salt, artificial flavors, and preservatives.
So in short, if you can…cook yourself some real pasta and do your body a world of good!
