New Bedford Music Star Quinn Sullivan Makes Fun of Himself

Quinn Sullivan knows how to move an audience. Usually, the New Bedford music sensation does it with his guitar. He can also do it with humor.

In a promotional reel for his new single, "Rise Up Children," the 25-year-old guitarist, singer and songwriter makes fun of himself ... to himself.

He plays a guy walking into his house wearing shades and headphones, rocking out to the tune. He asks his roommate, also played by him, "Dude, do you remember that kid Quinn Sullivan I've been friends with forever?"

The roommate responds, "Oh, my God, is that that little (expletive) who was on Ellen's show when he was 6 years old? He thought he was the (expletive)?"

Character No. 1 isn't having any of the negativity. "Dude, it's one of the most fire songs I've ever heard of him," he says. "Save your comments. Let me just play you 10 seconds of the song."

After 20 years in the spotlight, it's nice that Sullivan doesn't take himself too seriously. He takes music seriously, though.

Sullivan fell in love with the guitar at 3 years old, when his parents took him to a blues festival. A few years later, he was showing off his skills on The Ellen Degeneres Show.

By 11, he was touring the world. Over the years, he has appeared on stage with legends including Buddy Guy, B.B. King and Carlos Santana. He has played the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in downtown New Bedford and Madison Square Garden in New York City. With his guitar and smooth vocals, he can make audiences feel sadness, hope and everything in between.

Despite his success, the New Bedford High School graduate has never forgotten home. He performed at the 107th Feast of the Blessed Sacrament in New Bedford in 2023. In April 2024, he presented at the inaugural New Bedford Film Festival's award show.

His new album, Salvation, featuring single "Half My Heart," is out June 7, 2024. As for "Rise Up Children," the "fire" song in Sullivan's reel, look for that on May 2.
