NEW BEDFORD — Police in New Bedford are investigating a shots fired incident in the near North End on Thursday evening that left a home damaged from gunshots.

New Bedford Police spokesman Lt. Scott Carola said patrol units responded to a call reporting shots fired at the intersection of Sawyer and Jean streets at around 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

Officers arrived to find spent shell casings at the scene and damage to a nearby house, according to Carola.

No injuries have been reported and the investigation is ongoing.

No further details have been disclosed.

Neighbors reported hearing several gunshots, with police canvassing the area and reviewing video surveillance footage from residents.
