Back by very popular demand, ferry service from Providence to Newport is kicking off the 2018 season.

Starting this Friday, May 25th and running through Columbus Day weekend, Monday October 8th, you can ride a Seastreak Ferry from 25 India St in Providence to 39 America's Cup Avenue in Newport (or vice versa).

They'll even be offering later evening ferries for WaterFire Lightings in Providence.

The ferry rides are about an hour long and are great for a day in Newport or Providence without fighting traffic or dealing with often difficult parking.

And on the Providence side you can enjoy a farmer's market at India Point Park on most Saturdays while you wait for your ferry ride.

Seastreak also says the Ocean State (the name of the ferry used for the Providence to Newport trips) has been completely refurbished, offers 2 levels (for those who want to sit outdoors) and can fit 149 passengers.

Pets and bikes are also welcome on the ferry.

There will be several ferry trips offered every day of the week and tickets are very reasonable at $10 for adults and $5 for children, seniors and those with disabilities.

You can get the full schedule at Ridethebayri.com, where you can also purchase tickets. Online reservations are strongly encouraged as trips often sold out last season.
