In a world filled with negativity and self-centeredness, small acts of kindness can truly shine as beacons of hope and compassion. One such instance occurred in New Bedford when Kayla Paiva, a resident of Dartmouth, extended a simple gesture that left a lasting impact on both her and a stranger.

It was a typical lunchtime at Dee's Hot Dogs on Tarkiln Hill Road, a popular spot in the northern part of New Bedford. As Kayla stood in line, waiting to place her order, she noticed the gentleman ahead of her facing a predicament – he only had a debit card, and the establishment accepted cash only. Without hesitation, Paiva offered to cover the cost of his meal, ensuring he wouldn't have to make a trip to the nearby gas station for cash.

Reflecting on the encounter, Kayla expressed her surprise at the gentleman's reaction. After all, acts of kindness can sometimes catch people off guard. Yet, despite his initial disbelief, the man was genuinely grateful, his heart touched by Paiva's selfless gesture.

When speaking with her, Paiva emphasizes the significance of treating others with kindness, regardless of whether or not they are known to us personally. Helping someone in need far outweighs any recognition or praise.

I write this to not boast about her good deed, but rather to highlight the power of kindness to brighten someone's day and uplift their spirits. So, before you attack her for "boasting" of any sorts, keep in mind that this was my idea to help spread positivity across the SouthCoast. Allow this simple story to serves as an inspiration for others to look beyond themselves and seek opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of those around them. I

In the end, Paiva reminds us all of the profound impact we can have when we choose to lead with empathy and generosity- even if it means buying a stranger a hot dog or two.
