NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police are investigating a stabbing at a housing complex in the city's north end.

Police responded to a report that a woman had been stabbed multiple times early Monday morning in the 100-block of Amanda Avenue at Dottin Place. The housing complex is situated off of Church Street near Rt. 140, and is operated by the New Bedford Housing Authority.

The woman is being treated at an area hospital for serious injuries.

Police say the stabbing was not a random act, as the suspect is known to the victim.

The investigation is active, according to police.
