The answer is probably "yes," with it just being a matter of time before the flimsy plastic bags are banned in New Bedford as well as other Southcoast communities.  The city of Boston this week was the latest Massachusetts location to approve a ban on the single-use bags, as reported by boston.com.

There are now about 60 communities here in the Commonwealth that have banned the bags, including most towns on Cape Cod and the Islands.  Most ban the flimsy bags and require businesses to charge 5 cents for other checkout bags.

Some stores, including ALDI, which is opening a new store in Wareham soon, already encourages shoppers to use their reusable bags.  They don't have plastic bags, and charge customers for paper bags.
