The retail giant has announced a move that will be a significant step toward removing the limitations of gender for children.

According to Scripps Media.com, the company will stop separating toy sections for boys and girls and will eliminate gender-based signs in their departments.

Author Melissa Atkins Wardy stated that the change will play a role in shifting how kids perceive themselves as consumers and will shift the way that adults see the role of gender in childhood.

Target stated in a press release that guests have asked important questions about a handful of signs in Target stores that are based off gender.

Target’s announcement comes two months after a woman from Ohio tweeted a picture of a sign in the toy section in Target with separate labels for building sets.
