Sandy The Seal From The Buttonwood Park Zoo Has Died

Buttonwood Park Zoo Facebook

Sad news from the Buttonwood Park Zoo.  According to their Facebook page, Sandy the seal has died.  He has been entertaining visitors to the zoo for 20 years.  The male Atlantic harbor seal was diagnosed with liver disease a few months ago.  The zoo’s staff made the difficult decision to put Sandy to sleep when they determined that his condition was untreatable.

Sandy was found as a stranded pup in Barnstable during the summer of 1981 and has lived at the Buttonwood Park Zoo since 1993.  The zoo’s two other seals, Blue and Yellow, are doing fine.
