UPDATE 6:48 - There are now reports of two earthquakes striking the Southcoast within minutes of each other. The first quake is reported by the United States Geological Survey as a M2.4 earthquake, originating at 5:46pm 1.5 miles SSW of New Bedford.

The second quake is being reported by multiple sources, including the New England Incidents Facebook page, as a M4.1 earthquake originating off the coast of Nantucket at 5:48pm.

UPDATE 6:32 - According to the New England Incidents Facebook Page, an earthquake did originate off the coast of Nantucket at 5:48pm, reportedly of 4.1 magnitude on the Richter Scale.

Original Story - Another possible earthquake has struck the Southcoast area.

Around 5:45pm Tuesday, callers to WBSM and many others reported hearing a loud rumble, followed by a trembling sensation.

According to the Weston Observatory at Boston College, there was some sort of seismic activity around the time reports began coming in.
