Three beaches in the city of New Bedford are closed to swimming through today.  The city's health department says that the heavy rainfall over the past several hours has raised the threat of bacteria at the beaches.

Those affected are beaches along East and West Rodney French Boulevard, and the beach inside Fort Taber.   The water is being tested today, and if acceptable water quality levels are found, the beaches will be allowed to open tomorrow.
