New Bedford High Marching Band Beaming With Pride After Win
The New Bedford High marching band seems to be putting itself back on the map as they won Division 3 at the 28th annual competition Sunday afternoon. "Everyone just put in all the energy they had for their home crowd." said senior Ashely Souza.
"Today's definitely the best performance we've had," said Andrew Madeira, "It makes me feel like New Bedford is getting bigger in arts programming and people are noticing that."
Budget cuts have taken a toll on the program, according to Southcoast Today, but it certainly seems like the program is on its way back and the students and parents have definatly sensed it.
The band has more than doubled in size in the past 5 years.
"Once you have a successful program, kids will keep joining. It's been growing by leaps and bounds every year. This is our 28th annual event and it's one of our largest, most diverse and most successful in recent memory." said Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou, director of fine arts with the New Bedford Public Schools
Hopefully the NBHS marching bank continues to see growth and success in the years to come.
