If you're from the New Bedford area, you know that fishing is a big part of the community. Many make a living from it, while others just use it as a way to relax and unwind. A question we often get asked is where the best fishing spots are, so here are a few that we like to hit up.

Nasetucket Bay, Fairhaven

This spot was acquired by the state in 1999, and people have been enjoying it's trails and shoreline for years now. Located in Fairhaven, this is the perfect place to spend a weekend afternoon. Take out the boat, and enjoy a great walk along the rocky shores and ledges.

Mattapoisett River, Mattapoisett

This river, which is about 10 miles long is one of our favorites. Taking you from Rochester all the way into Buzzards Bay, it's a great local spot. If you do happen to enjoy good fishing, than this is the spot for you. According to Angler Web, the Mattapoisett River has the areas most abundant supply of herring. Rest assured, you won't go hungry. Just bring plenty of potatoes for some chips to go with that fish.

Apponagansett Bay, New Bedford

This one is a busy harbor, but if you have a boat, or know someone with a boat, it's an awesome spot. While you might not catch the biggest of fish here, you can enjoy water skiing while you wait. Also, don't plan on digging for clams. This area is closed to that.
