The Pawtucket Red Sox have ended their search for waterfront land in downtown Providence for a new stadium. Some Massachusetts officials said they're open to a pitch from the baseball team.

According to Southcoast Today, officials in several cities, including New Bedford, said they'd be interested in talking with the team's ownership group, led by Boston Red Sox President Larry Lucchino, about hosting the PawSox.

The plan that would have brought the team to Providence would have cost the city upwards of $120 million dollars for the construction of a stadium.

Mayor Jon Mitchell had a luke warm reaction to the proposal.  Mitchell says he'd be willing to talk with the Red Sox AAA club about moving the team to the Whaling City, but that he'd be opposed to using public money to do it.

Worcester and Springfield both expressed interest in bringing the PawSox to their cities.

The PawSox say that the team will explore other options, including different sites in Providence, but that staying at McCoy Stadium is not an option.
