I'll be the first to tell you that when it comes to anything supernatural or even spirits from the great beyond, I'm still somewhat skeptical.

The older I get, the stronger my catholic faith is grown and although I'm not as punctual with my weekly Sunday visits to mass, I'm working on it. Being busy was always my excuse, and it shouldn't be when it comes to devoting time to something you believe in.

I will say this- no matter where you go in the world, there are unexplainable "signs" lingering around every corner and most of them don't need an explanation. I'm talking about signs from heaven. Whether it be finding a dime or a penny heads up along the sidewalk or a bluejay that visits your windowsill every morning. It's comforting and something to look forward to in this crazy mixed-up world we live in.

Now, I've been sitting on something that happened to me a couple of weekends ago that I'm finally addressing. Recently, my grandmother and last surviving grandparent passed on from this life, and as tough as it was to say goodbye, I still feel her presence. One particular morning, I woke up early to make a pot of coffee and cook up a hearty breakfast. I had a big rugby tournament to get to and wanted to be well replenished.

As I opened up my sugar-free Chobani Greek yogurt, my eyes caught something on the other side of the lid. As it peeled off from the container, I saw what appeared to be a pair of angel wings. Immediately, I knew it was a sign from above. I was nervous and ready to go into battle (dramatically speaking) and this was exactly what I needed to see. It's as if she was there to protect me from getting hurt and as I walked off that field at the end of the match without a scratch on me, I knew she was with me.

Life is so unpredictable and somewhat mysterious, but I'm starting to believe that if you allow your mind to open up to something greater than all of us combined, then perhaps we can breathe a little easier. Knowing our guardian angels are there to keep watch- it's comforting.

Whether your signs are seen in the sky or on the back of a yogurt lid, always keep an open mind. You never know what's right in front of your face until you see it for yourself.
