You may not like flossing, but if you're pregnant it can be an important part of your daily routine!

Sure your dentist always tells you to floss more, but during pregnancy it actually becomes even more important to have healthy teeth and gums. In fact, flossing can help prevent preterm labor.
Going into early labor can be scary. It can also be dangerous for mother and baby, so doing everything you can during pregnancy to keep that baby in your belly is usually of utmost importance for moms-to-be.

And one of the 'things' you can do is floss.

Sounds simple enough, but it can be very important. In fact more and more recent research shows the link between good dental health and longer pregnancies is a strong one.

So how does oral hygiene and full term pregnancy pair up?

As whattoexpect.com points out, simply brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing daily can reduce your risk of gingivitis, a common condition where your gums become inflamed and could even begin to bleed. If left untreated, gingivitis could lead to a more serious infection called periodontitis and that can cause some women to go into premature labor or even develop preeclampsia...neither of which is good for you or your baby.

So if you're having a baby and are trying to stay healthy, it's not just about what you eat but also what you do. Make sure after those healthy meals you're brushing your teeth and flossing at least once a day to help prevent infections both inside and out!
