In 2018, New Bedford had more than 70 nights that were 28 degrees or below. Temperatures this low result in the emergency shelters needing to be opened to support people in our area living without adequate shelter.

It is estimated that at least 60 people are living without any kind of shelter whatsoever, sleeping outside, in cars, and in abandoned buildings on any given night.

In 2019, you can help First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union and Rise Up for Homes keep the shelters open for those who need it most. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the overflow shelter in 2019. The hard cost to keep the overflow shelter open is $475 per night. That money is used for supplies, food, overhead, and security staffing to keep the shelter safe.
