In a five hour period on Wednesday police, firefighters and EMTs responded to five overdoses throughout New Bedford.

The Standard Times reports that between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. first responders were called to the scene of five overdoses.

Detective Capt. Steven Vicente, public information officer of the New Bedford Police Department, told the Times that none of the overdoses were fatal and all of the victims were taken to St. Luke's Hospital to be monitored after receiving Narcan.

Overdose one was on Spooner St where a 23-year-old New Bedford man was found by a friend in his bathroom in the middle of an overdose with a hypodermic needle found next to him.

Overdose two was a 28-year-old New Bedford man also found by friends in the bathroom this time of an Earle St apartment. According to the Standard Times, he admitted to using heroin and this was his sixth overdose.

Overdose three was on Hillman St where a 62-year-old man overdosed and collapsed. He too was found by a friend. Vincente says this man overdosed twice in September of last year.

Overdose four was within minutes of the third, where a 36-year-old man was found on his bed by a friend on State Street.

And overdose five was a 23-year-old New Bedford woman who was found on Coggeshall Street and admitted to using heroin.
