Over the years, the Fall River Office of Veterans Services has provided local veterans with a better quality of life through generous donations of amenities. This holiday season, 5 women in the Veterans Department decided to team up and do something a little different, that would not only give back to local veterans but also provide some holiday spirit.

For the first time, the Fall River Office of Veterans Services is asking for the community’s help in collecting winter donations to fill up personalized stockings.

The Veterans Christmas Stocking Giveaway is happening on Thursday, December 21st.

Army veteran Michelle Hamilton has been the Director of Veteran Services for the past 8 months and has witnessed the incredible ways in which the department gives back to local veterans.

“A lot of people in the community do food baskets (for veterans) but that can get expensive,” she said. “We wanted to do something different and make a difference in our veteran community. They don’t ask for help very often.”

How to Help

Hamilton and her team are looking for items to be stuffed into at least 150 stockings.

“We are looking for hats, gloves, women's clothes and amenities, pre-packaged snacks, and anything that will fit into a stocking,” she said. “Whatever we get, we’re putting it in.”

The goal is to have at least 150 stockings stuffed to the brim with items that will make the holidays a little brighter for our veterans.

Anyone looking to donate to the stockings can bring their items to the Veterans Office on the 4th floor of City Hall, Monday through Thursday 8 am to 4 pm, and Friday 8 am to 3 pm.

How to Receive a Stocking

If you are a veteran interested in taking home a stocking, stockings will be distributed at City Hall on December 21st from 3 pm to 6:30 pm in the atrium of the Government Center. Hamilton recommends pre-registering by calling the Office of Veterans Services at 508-324-2432.

Show support for local veterans and help these thoughtful women fill up these stockings.
