A deal to bring an Amazon distribution center to Fall River could be completed in the coming weeks.

500 new jobs could be headed to the Southcoast with the deal to bring a million-square-foot Amazon fulfillment center to the SouthCoast Life Science and Technology Park reportedly coming to a close in weeks.

The Herald spoke Friday afternoon with Kenneth Fiola Jr., the executive vice president of the Fall River Office of Economic Development, who said

We’re in the phase of crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s,. We are just finalizing the documentation as we speak. We’re getting closer to executing the closing.”

He added that the remaining steps before sealing the deal are for developer Trammell Crow Co. to purchase 77 acres of land in the biotechnology office park for a little more than $3.7 million, build the proposed facility to Amazon’s specifications and then lease it to the online retail giant.

There's also paperwork like state documents and permits to fill out and file, but Fiola says the official purchase-and-sales agreement could happen as soon as the end of next week, or the week after that.

Construction would be able to start soon after.
