A two-year-old boy from East Freetown is awaiting a new heart at Boston Children's Hospital.

WPRI 12 reports that Chase Miceli was born with only half a heart...a serious congenital heart defect known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

Chase has spent more than half of his life in the hospital according to WPRI 12 and is currently in the intensive care unit at Boston Children’s Hospital awaiting a heart transplant.

The Miceli's are from East Freetown, but Chase has been traveling from Boston to the Southcoast for treatments.

He has already undergone two open heart surgeries and at this point his heart is in failure.

As his father told channel 12, the family is "hoping that an organ becomes available shortly, because he really needs it.”

The family is also trying to raise awareness for Chase's condition since there is not a lot of funding for children with congenital heart defects, it's mostly for adults with heart disease.

There is a GoFundMe page for the family and their medical expenses for Chase.
