The Black Bass Grille in South Dartmouth is staging a fundraiser on Saturday, September 16 from noon to 10 p.m. to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project, a national non-profit seeking to bring independence back to our nation's most severely wounded 9/11-era veterans.

Restaurant owner Matt Rooney has staged fundraisers for the past 11 years for Wounded Warriors, raising $150,000 in the process. Rooney has brought on two long-time friends, Wes and Kellie Faulkner of Dartmouth, to expand the event.

The Faulkners have their own history of helping others as part of the Giveback Foundation. The couple organizes two to three events per year, raising money for organizations like the VFW, leukemia research and fundraisers to help local families in need.

The Faulkners joined Townsquare Sunday this week to promote the fundraiser and explain why they do what they do.

"Matt Rooney and I are kindred spirits of sorts, and about four years ago we decided to help him grow his event," Wes Faulkner said.

Each year, the Black Bass Grille offers a special menu for its Wounded Warrior event, centered around what our troops might have been eating during a certain war or conflict. This year the menu will center around the Mexican-American War, and Faulkner said Rooney, a classically trained chef, has created a special "Tex-Mex" menu for the occasion.

Kellie Faulkner said she and her husband, and Matt Rooney as well, all have veterans in their families, and they are committed to helping those who served after 9/11.

The Sept. 16 fundraiser will feature live music throughout the 10-hour event. Silent auctions and raffles will also be held. If you have items to donate, please call Kellie Faulkner at (603) 682-9189. Tickets will be available at the door, or you can call the Black Bass Grille for information.

Townsquare Sunday is a community affairs program, heard Sundays at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. on WBSM.

The program highlights individuals and organizations seeking to make the SouthCoast a better place to life and work.
