After learning about the horrific shootings that happened yesterday in Roanoke, VA of the two young TV journalists, it was easy to feel a loss of faith in humanity. We see these awful tragedies happen all too often. They are all senseless, tragic and unnecessary. The tragedy yesterday hit us here a little bit harder though, because working in the media, we realize, this type of thing could happen to any of us. It's scary, TV personalities and radio personalities alike, are out on the streets, putting ourselves out there in the public eye, not thinking that something terrible could happen while we are just trying to do our jobs. I thought about those poor journalists all day yesterday and it put a knot in my stomach.

I also tried to see a silver lining, as I try to do many times when something bad happens. I thought, you know, this makes me want to just be a good person and show others that faith in humanity is not lost, and just because there are some bad apples in the bunch, we are certainly not all bad! Even the smallest act of kindness can really make someone's day, like buying the coffee for the person in line behind you. We're all fighting our own battles, and no one truly knows what another person is going through, so the smallest act of kindness can really go a long way.

Before I had the chance to turn my thoughts into reality, I saw that someone else was thinking the same way I was. My friend Rich works at the Ocean State Sandwich Company and yesterday a customer dropped this note off with the cashier along with $15. She told the cashier to 'give the money to someone they thought would pay it forward.' So, when one of their regulars came into the sandwich shop, they gave it to him, knowing he'd pass it on.

I was so happy to see something like this last night. It's tough in times of tragedy to remember that there are still good people in the world. Seeing this float around on Facebook last night reminded me that there certainly is.
