Baseball fans on the Southcoast could be seeing more games right in their own backyard.

Officials in New Bedford are reportedly interested in throwing the city's name in the ring as a new location for the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate.

The Pawtucket Red Sox are probably going to be relocating and though most of the talk has been to take the team to Providence, City Councilor Steve Martins thinks New Bedford should be considered as well.

Martins has already has filed a motion for the city to discuss becoming the new home for the team. And according to CBS Boston, he and fellow councilor Kerry Winterson have even lined up two potential sites for a baseball stadium, one right along the water similar to Providence's proposed ballpark.

The pair say they are willing to let the PawSox works out a deal with Rhode Island officials first, but add New Bedford would consider taking an aggressive approach in obtaining the team if a deal falls through.

So what do you think of the Red Sox farm team coming to the Southcoast? Would you want to see a baseball stadium built in New Bedford?
