New Bedford Man Jumps 3 Stories To Evade Cops

Police were responding to calls that a crowd was chasing a man on Hathaway Street in New Bedford's South End Thursday evening.

It appears they chased him into his own apartment after accusing him of breaking into another building on the same street. But when police entered the man's building, he jumped from a third floor window.

He suffered a serious head injury, and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. There is no word yet on his identity, or how many people were in the crowd that was chasing him.
