I'll never forget the first time I watched The Wizard of Oz. I was in second grade, and my mom had already put me to bed for the night. As many little kids do, I went downstairs to ask for a drink -- as a stall tactic.

I had no idea what The Wizard of Oz was, but it was on TV that night. CBS used to broadcast the movie once a year, and it was every bit as big as watching the beloved Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas special, also on CBS.

Aside from a lifelong fear of flying monkeys that I've yet to shake, The Wizard of Oz broadcast was like a holiday in my house.  That "specialness," of course, was ruined with the advent of VHS tapes, DVDs and DVRs. Anyone can now watch anything anytime they want.

It sounds a little odd, but there may be an unknown reason for that.

The Oz Escape Experience is scheduled to happen in Plymouth on Saturday, June 1, and New Bedford on Saturday, June 8.
