For the past three years, three Westport friends have set up a little slice of Christmas spirit off State Road selling Christmas trees to local families. Each year, they give away a tree for free to one lucky family, and for their fourth year in business, they are excited to give away three.

The Men Behind the Trees

22-year-old Jack Cordeiro, 25-year-old Nick Cordeiro, and 28-year-old Matt Medeiros are the proud owners of Westport Novia Scotia Christmas Trees. Each season, the men sell roughly 1,400 balsam firs from the parking lot at 1121 State Road, and every season, it brings them pure, holiday joy.

“Seeing everyone come back each year, and seeing people you haven’t seen all year, that’s probably the best part,” said Jack.

“Just seeing the families come and see the kids grow up, people take pictures with our sleigh, it’s a great experience,” said Matt.

When families visit, it’s an experience. People are encouraged to take photos in their big, red sleigh and The Grinch visits on the weekends to cause a little holiday mischief.

Christmas Trees Straight From Canada

The three friends inherited the tree-selling business from a local man who had connections in Canada, and the boys continue to get beautiful, freshly chopped trees from up north and shipped to their humble setup in Westport.

“They get delivered by trucks and they usually still have snow on them,” said Matt. “They are as fresh as can be.”

Continuing the Tradition of Giving

When the three friends took over the business in 2020, they decided to give away a tree to promote themselves and get some attention. Now, in their fourth season, they keep the contest alive out of pure joy.

“We were so overwhelmed with responses (to the contest) this year, so we’ll be giving away three trees,” said Jack.

How to Win a Free Tree from Novia Scotia Xmas Trees

Farms Closest to New Bedford for Tagging Your Christmas Tree

There are surprisingly no cut-your-own Christmas tree farms on the SouthCoast. Most local families get pre-cut trees from a variety of places, but for those who want to get a little more hands-on this holiday, there are a few places within driving distance to not only cut your own tree, but to also tag it earlier in the season.

12 of Our Favorite Designs on the Padanaram Buoy Tree

A tree was needed for the first-ever tree lighting at the annual Christmas event in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Community members came together to design a nautical tree worthy of its coastal destination. This buoy tree in Padanaram Village will be the centerpiece of the Holiday Festival.
