For its fifth year, a local community service organization will host a sock drive to benefit the Joy of Sox Organization, and the Wareham Police Department will be joining in on the initiative.

For homeless people, socks can be a lifesaver, and Wareham PD aims to collect more socks this year than any other police department in the area.

The Joy of Sox Organization

The concept is simple. The Joy of Sox Organization aims to provide joy and health to those experiencing homelessness by giving them new socks.

“Our vision is to be the most effective sock charity in the United States and to give every person experiencing homelessness in America six pairs of new socks each year,” said the organization.

Since 2010, The Joy of Sox has collected and distributed hundreds of thousands of new socks to people experiencing homelessness in the United States and even the world, thanks to the help of generous donors and volunteers.

“The core to reaching our mission is through sock drives we conduct in the community,” said Joy of Sox.

The Wareham Police Department didn’t hesitate to take part in such a crucial cause that brings warmth and safety to people experiencing homelessness.

What Is The Action Team?

The Action Team is a community service organization that organizes and participates in community service events geared toward helping people from all walks of life.

Laicey Leronimo founded The Action Team in 2017 when she was a junior in high school. She is now a police officer in Massachusetts, allowing The Action Team to easily partner with local law enforcement agencies, like the Wareham Police Department.

How to Help Wareham PD Collect Socks

Last year, The Action Team collected 5,292 pairs of socks. This year, they aim to collect 6,000, and Wareham PD is confident they can help surpass that goal.

“The talk about the station is that we can absolutely collect more socks than all the other departments,” said the department. “We know the people of Wareham will help us make that happen.”

The department will be collecting socks until December 1st. Keep an eye on Wareham PD's website for a list of local collection bins. Monetary donations can also be made, and the department will purchase socks on your behalf.

The socks will be distributed through the Joy of Sox to homeless people nationwide, ensuring that they stay warm and healthy during the coming winter months.
