Athyn is a 3 year old Acushnet boy who will be helping lead the survivors' lap in New Bedford tomorrow.

According to Southcoasttoday, on Friday 6/24 at New Bedford High School, Athyn will be leading the annual Relay's survivors' lap. This year's relay will have 43 teams and 327 participants. By Tuesday night, more than $103,000 was raised.

Athyn Sousa had surgery on his lower body about two weeks ago. His mother Susan, said he was on his feet soon after the surgery.  When he was 17 months old, he was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma. He was diagnosed on January 29th, 2014 and ended his treatment on May 29th, 2015. He went through six rounds of chemotherapy within 18 months time. During his fourth and fifth rounds, he went through a 14-hour surgery to remove the tumor. His surgery and treatments were at the Boston Children's Hospital and the Dana-Faber Cancer Institute.  He is a inspiration to so many!

Susana says that her son was amazing throughout the chemotherapy, that he didn't have setbacks and was ahead of schedule in his recovery.  The fact that he is able to join the Relay For Life team this year is a miracle.  Organizers of the relay along with his family and friends are excited for this special survivors lap that Athyn will take part in.
