Taunton Man Arrested For Alleged Bank Robbery and Bomb Threats
RAYNHAM (WBSM) — Raynham Police Department arrested a Taunton man on Tuesday on charges that he allegedly robbed a bank and made bomb threats.
John Stonge, 57, of Taunton, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, making a false bomb threat, possession of a hoax incendiary device, larceny over $1,200, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
Raynham Police were notified of a robbery at the Rockland Trust bank on New State Highway just before 10 a.m. on March 12.
According to officers, Stonge allegedly entered the bank and approached a teller, and then passed a note to the teller demanding money while claiming to have a bomb. He then fled in a small gray SUV.
Officers located Stonge and the SUV a short distance away from the bank. Stonge allegedly continued to flee from police before eventually pulling over.
Stonge was taken into custody without further incident. A search of Stonge’s vehicle revealed cash stolen police said was from the bank. Police said they also found an electrical cord attached to a light switch made to look like an explosive device.
