Police were called to a home on Lafayette Street this afternoon where suspicious items were found and the bomb squad was called in.

The police were initially called to the residence after family members said a male at the location had made some irrational statements. When they got on scene they noticed several items in the house that seemed suspicious and caused the to call the Massachusetts State Bomb Squad as a precaution.

According to Sgt. Kevin Kobza, public information officer of the Fairhaven Police Department, the items were determined to cause no threat.

State and Fairhaven police did stay on the scene until the bomb squad finished all work and the area was deemed safe.
