Heart disease, cancer, accidents, stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases. According to Fox News, these are the top five killers of men. But now a new study reports that us guys have a new killer to worry about: sharks.

Researchers at Bond University in Australia recently analyzed global statistics regarding shark bites and discovered that "men are almost nine times more likely than women to be killed in an unprovoked shark attack," reports Outside.

The study found that "men make up 84 percent of all unprovoked attacks and 89 percent fatalities." The results of the study were published in Coastal Management.

But why is there such a big discrepancy? Associate Professor Daryl McPhee told the Telegraph that he believes it is because "men spend more time in the water and are more risk prone."

So if you're planning to take advantage of September's warm weather, you may want to keep an extra eye out for those great white sharks folks sighted around Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard earlier this summer. I'd hate for you to become shark food the next time you go for a dip!
