Newport In Top 10 for Same-Sex Weddings

It's only been a few days since same-sex marriage became legal in Rhode Island, but one city is already being listed as one of the most popular places for gay couples planning their wedding.   Newport has been named one of the world's Top 10 up-and-coming spots for same-sex destination weddings by CheapFlights.com.

Newport Mayor Henry Winthrop is proud of the city's inclusion on the list.   "We have it all," the mayor said.  "Just the natural beauty of the harbor, of Ocean Drive, of the Cliff Walk attracts visitors every year."

Newport already hosts about 1,500 weddings each year.   Now with same-sex wedding being legal, the city expects an increase of about 10 percent this year.
