Maybe you've been lucky enough to be in a job that you love, that's great for you.  But some of us may feel that we have to just "hurry up" and get a job; taking the first thing we can get.  Not smart and here's why.

There is a great article at Forbes.com about some of the worst advise given to folks looking and interviewing for a new job.  It made me think about some mistakes I've made with past job choices and decisions and it also reminded me of the great choices I've made too.

First things first, don't rush the job search.  Now that doesn't mean you can't take a part time job to bring in an income while you spend time seeking the right job or career path.  But, when it comes to the career you've invested in and are choosing for your livelihood, take your time and go on several interviews.

Another thing to keep in mind is to never accept a job if you are offered one on the spot during or at the very end of an interview.  Always take a day to think it through. Spontaneity is not a good sign coming from a future employer.

Everyone has an opinion, remember that.  Family, friends and colleagues will all have different opinions on what you should or shouldn't do.  It's fair to take the advice you consider to be valuable but don't let others make up your mind for you.  Follow your own aspirations and make decisions based on what you feel is right for you.

And lastly, don't accept a position because you are desperate for a job or feel that nothing better is on the horizon.  If you get to this point, it means you didn't pay attention to what was noted above.  TAKE YOUR TIME!  This is a BIG deal, you are making decisions that will affect your life now as well as in for the foreseeable future. Be mindful and use your gut.  Both will never steer you wrong :)
