The holidays are filled with such great traditions that people love to share. One great tradition is listening to the great holiday music that's been made over the years.

While everyone has a favorite holiday song that they love to sing along to, not everyone really knows what they're saying. Over the years, lyrics have been misconstrued, leaving some great holiday tunes looking like they make no sense.

The people at snopes.com did a great job of compiling a whole list of holiday songs with both their exact lyrics and their, well let's just call them, "adopted" lyrics. Here's a few examples:

Deck The Halls

(Correct Lyric) Deck the halls with boughs of holly

(Adopted Lyric) Deck the halls with Buddy Holly

(Correct Lyric) Don we now our gay apparel

(Adopted Lyric) Don we now our day of peril

Hark! the Herald Angels Sing

(Correct Lyric) Hark! the herald angels sing, glory to the new born king

(Adopted Lyric) Hark! the herald angels sing, glory to the New York king

Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town

(Correct Lyric) He's making a list, And checkin' it twice

(Adopted Lyrics) He's making a list, Of chicken and rice
