A must-see attraction when you visit Martha’s Vineyard is the Flying Horses Carousel. Natives and visitors alike have been enjoying the carousel for decades. It was one destination that FUN 107 stopped by during our Memorial Day Weekend visit to the Vineyard.

The Flying Horses Carousel is the oldest operating platform carousel in the United States and is considered a National Historic Landmark. Built in 1876 and originally operated in Coney Island, NY it was moved to Oak Bluffs in 1884 where it’s been ever since.

One outstanding tradition at the carousel is catching the brass ring and when you do you get a free ride. Riders tried to collect the treasured brass ring which was an experience to witness and you can view it to by watching the video below.

The carousel is open from Easter through Columbus Day and it’s a great place to stop by with the family, especially during the upcoming summer months.
