Edgartown Police are warning the public about the dangers of digging holes at the beach after one local man was almost buried under feet of sand.

I think we've all seen kids digging in the sand at the beach, but when the hole gets too huge it can become dangerous.

That's what one man found out at Norton Point Beach on Thursday.

According to the Edgartown Police Department Facebook page, a man dug himself a gigantic hole in the sand that was about 6-8 feet deep. But once in the hole, it collapsed on him and nearly buried him alive.

A friend there with him managed to dig out enough sand to allow him to breathe, but Police and Fire crews called to the scene had to use shovels and a backhoe to get him completely free.
