One of the most famous reminders that St. Patrick's Day is on its way back to the Southcoast is the when we see the Shamrock Shake back on McDonald's menu. The iconic beverage has been offered each and every year since 1970. It may be hard to find anyone living here in America who hasn't tasted one of these green shakes at least once. They are available from late February through most of March, and then disappear until the next year.

However, you can now enjoy a shamrock shake in the comfort of your own home any time of the year. You can even put a cherry on top for even more luck. From epicurious.com, we have the actual recipe used in the popular shake:.

  1. 1 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream.
  2. 1/2 cup whole milk.
  3. 10 drops green food coloring.
  4. 1 teaspoon peppermint extract.
  5. Whipped cream (optional)
  6. 1 maraschino cherry.

The website says it takes about f minutes to make your very own shamrock shake.
