The live action version of one of my favorites 80's cartoons is slowly becoming a reality. A few months ago director John M. Chu said he'd be making Jem into a  film and now his cast is coming to light.

Honestly, I'm not too sure who any of these young ladies are and it disappoints me a bit that they are the stars of this movie I was so excited about, but I guess congratulations to Aubrey Peeples for landing the lead role of Jerrica Benton and her alter ego Jem.

Aubrey is apparently best known for her role in ABC's Nashville (which I've never seen) and Jem is going to be her big screen debut. She is not alone on the casting front however.

The Hollywood Reporter says Disney star Stefanie Scott has been cast as Jerrica's sister Kimber, Aurora Perrineau (daughter of Lost star Harold Perrineau) will be playing Shana and Hayley Kiyoko (from Disney and ABC Family shows) has landed the role of Aja.

I don't know about you, but when I read these names I went "WHO?"

It's admittedly been ages since I've watched Jem and I have no idea how old the characters were supposed to be, but this cast seems way young. Clearly the 30-something crowd is not who this film is going to be aimed towards, which kind of bums me out.

Not sure who I would have wanted cast in this, but I think People magazine's dream casting hit the mark much better than the actual casting does.

Would you have wanted a different cast?
