A woman with a questionable driving record pleads not guilty to motor vehicle homicide in connection with the death of a 26-year old Falmouth woman she allegedly hit with her car in Hyannis.

The Cape Cod Times reports that Sarah Allard, 31, of Hyannis, was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury and operating a motor vehicle without a license.  She plead not guilty.

The victim, 26-year old Amber Scanlon was walking on Pitchers Way with her boyfriend James Durso around 10pm Tuesday 9/20.  Police responded to find the victim laying on the ground.  Her boyfriend was able to give a statement to police before be taken to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries.  Miss Scanlon was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at Cape Cod Hospital.

Witnesses told police they observed a vehicle traveling north at approximately 40 to 50 mph before hearing a loud bang and screaming, according to the report. The witnesses said the vehicle didn't brake and continued north down Pitcher's Way without stopping.

According to the police report, a car part, which was believed to be from a Subaru Legacy, was found at the scene and helped lead Barnstable police to Allard’s residence at 90 Castlewood Drive in Hyannis.

Allard has a long history of many driving offenses; including speeding violations in Sandwich, Plymouth and Barnstable, as well as accidents in Yarmouth and Barnstable. In addition, she had her license suspended at least three times, according to her driving record with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Miss Allard was ordered held on $7,500 cash bail and a pretrial hearing in the case is set for Oct. 7th.
