A family in Michigan was pretty upset after a security guard looked through hospital records to obtain their daughter's personal information.

Mick and Monica Donahue from Grand Rapids took their 19-year-old daughter to Mercy Health's Urgent Care, where security guard Matt VanDyken saw them come in, went to the hospital's computer system, looked up their daughter’s name and tracked her down on Facebook to send her a friend request.

When their daughter saw the notification, she asked her mother how the security guard knew who she was and became increasingly concerned.

“That is completely wrong. Who else can get into that computer and what information can they obtain?" said Monica Donahue.

After the family complained, the hospital sent them two letters of apology, one from them and one from VanDyken. He wrote in the letter that he thought he recognized their daughter and that's why he looked up her record.

Monica isn't convinced with the letters. She believes that since they sent the letters the issue is solved but the Donahue's are concerned that their daughter isn't the only one he has looked up. To make matters worse, when Monica went on VanDyken's Facebook, she saw that he was married!  Mercy Health has announced that they would conduct an investigation into the matter and that action would be taken.

This is so creepy and certainly a violation of HIPPA law privacy!  He shouldn't be allowed access to client records in the first place and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up losing his job over this.
