A Texas high school student gave up her big moment as homecoming queen to help make the day of a less popular friend.

Anahi Alvarez of Grand Prairie High School in Texas, heard of a prank a few other students pulled on her longtime friend, Lillian Skinner. The students lied to Skinner, saying she had been nominated for homecoming queen.

When Alvarez learned of the cruel prank, she collaborated with fellow nominee Naomi Martinez, deciding that if either of them won the crown that they would give it to Skinner.

We promised each other and we were like, 'No matter what, no backing down. If one of us wins, we're giving Lillian the crown.

After Anahi won, they announced she wanted to honor "a very hard-working senior with her crown" and brought Lillian to the middle of the football field where the event was being held. Skinner, who had been taking pictures on the sidelines for the school newspaper, was shocked by her two friends' kind gesture.

In an article on NBCDFW.com, Martinez said, "We promised each other and we were like, 'No matter what, no backing down. If one of us wins, we're giving Lillian the crown."

With so much bad news going around, I love hearing about these feel-good stories. Too many students go through the "mean girls" experience, but having friends like Anahi and Naomi make the high school experience a little better!  I'm so glad this story had a happy ending!  I bet it made Anahi and Naomi feel great to do something so kind for their friend Lillian!
